Susanta Kumar De was born in Calcutta. He was qualified B. Sc and Paper Technology from city and guilds London Institute. He was the member of Faculty, paper setter and examiner of paper technology in the printing Engineering Department of Jadavpur University Calcutta from the year 1970 to 2002. He served 27 years in the paper and process department of Development Consultants Private Limited (DCPL) from the year 1970 to 1996. He became Chief Engineer of P & P Cell DCPL and also worked 10 years in different paper mills in India and aboard from the year 1959. His main assignment in DCPL was system design. Basic engineering operation, commission of different paper and board mill including write up techno-economic feasibility reports. He took active part particularly in the department of stock preparation paper machine and finishing department of Kerala Newsprint (250 TPD). Nowgon and Cacher paper mills, (150 TPD each), Century Board Mill, (100 TPD) Egg Tray and Apple Project (30 TPD). During his service in DCPL he was the project co-ordinator of Tribeni Tissue Mill, W.B for Energy Study and Audit.
He was deputed to capital pulp and Paper mill Bangladesh from indo German Paper Project as technical advisor for installation of imported tissue machine and MG. Kraft Machine in the Year 1997 to 1999.
He was the member of India Technical Association of pulp and Paper and participated various Seminers at the time of his service Period
